Sinister Review...
A horror movie thats 75% good, and only 20% scary, and 15% god awful horror movie cliches. A mathematical break down of Ethan Hawke's new fright flick from the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious. Now-a days it is very hard to make an original horror film, let alone original film in general. This movie, i'm still not quite sure weather or not it is (the actual story). But I do know, that the style of film making, for the most part, was inventively refreshing. Though unfortunately, the cliches cannot be scared away from the film. It does indeed suffer from a god awful last 15 minutes, a awfully stupid main character (but appears to be highly intelligent), and a few failed attempts at scaring me. Luckily though, and oddly enough, there wasn't that many attempts. Which was the best part of the film. The Cabin in the Woods, a "horror" film released earlier this year, and one of the best movies to be released this year, was a horror movie, that wasn't trying to scare, and it worked. Sinister, is no where near as good, or original, or intriguing as Cabin, but it seems to follow, almost, in it's foot steps. Which for the first hour and 15 minutes, really works for it. Ultimately, a 7/10.

Justin: Awesome Critique. And not to mention a great use of scene a faires and idea vs expression. Cliches are sometimes just that. There are things that are part of the horror movie formula, that will almost always show up- ie people dying from their own stupidity (idea vs. expression) and the scenes a faire (a family moving into a scary old house)
ReplyDeleteLol that equals 110% bro.
